Our College is a dynamic unit that is growing very fast. It has grown from a small unit formerly known as “Rural Economy Department” with a few students to become one of the largest academic units at the University. This has been in response to the changes in Tanzania’s macro-economic environment, the demand for competent professionals in the job market and self-employment. The College has about 1000 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness.
Currently, the College offers Undergraduate programs and Postgraduate programs: Two Bachelors Degree: 1) BSc. Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness and 2) Bsc. of Agricultural Investment and Banking. Three Masters Degrees: 1) MSc. Agricultural Economics, 2) MSc. Collaborative Masters of Applied Agricultural Economics and 3) MSc. Business Administration and Agribusiness. Two PhD programs: 1) PhD in Agricultural Economics and a PhD in Agribusiness.
At the moment the College has 35 academic staff and 4 supporting staff. About two-thirds of the academic staff are PhD holders, making the School the highest concentration of professional agricultural economist not only in the country but also in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
With the acquisition of new premises, plans are underway to construct a state of the art teaching and learning facilities including Lecture theatres, Seminar rooms, Offices, Incubators, Libraries, Language labs and recreational facilities for students and staff.
At COEBS there is a unique community of students and staff dedicated to bringing out the best in all its members. Our aim is to provide the best possible environment for teaching, learning, research and public services.
