SOKOINE MEMORIAL WEEK 2021

​​​​​​​The memorial week to honor the life and legacy of the late Edward Moringe Sokoine took place from 24th to 27th May 2021 at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Edward Moringe Campus (main campus) sports grounds. The theme for the week was “Agricultural Technologies, Productivity and Market Competitiveness in Tanzania: Towards an Upper-Middle-Income Country”.

Several University Units such asCollege of Economics and Business Studies(COEBS) participated in the exhibition activities. The week activities involve exhibitions of agricultural technologies, sports and games, hospital services, animal hospital services, blood donation, and a Scientific Conference.

In the opening of Sokoine Memorial weel 2021, the guest honor, Hon. Mashimba Ndaki from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, made it clear that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries will continue cooperating with Sokoine University of Agriculture to conduct research and develop modern and affordable technologies that can be easily used and ultimately uplift the agricultural and livestock sector in the country.

He also noted that the memorial week not only provides an opportunity for agricultural experts, farmers, policymakers, politicians, and stakeholders from various groups to reflect on the ideas and leadership of the late Edward Moringe Sokoine but also help to find direction for agricultural development in a way that will revolutionize agriculture and uplift the lives of the people especially those in rural areas in the current environment and the era of information and communication technology.

The Vice president, Hon. Phillip Mipango comment that  “among the things that the late Sokoine was emphasizing were food security, investment in agriculture, animal husbandry, and research as a basis for improving the lives of people, especially in the rural areas” (Memorial week – closing day)
