Prof.Damian M.Gabagambi

Introductions
Pro.GabagambiProf. Damian M. Gabagambi holds PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany. He currently works as professor and Dean,College of Economics and Business Studiesat Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania. He has also worked as Senior Researcher at a think-tank institution, Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA) in Dar es Salaam.

He also serves as a board member of a number of organizations including the Agricultural Non-state Actors Forum (ANSAF); Collaborative Master of Agricultural and Applied Economics (CMAAE), a program under African Economic Research Consortium (EARC), and the Regional Network of Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI). He is a member of a range of professional organizations including the Agricultural Economist Association of Tanzania (AGREST), Policy Forum, Tropentag Konferenz, alumnus of Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst (EED) and Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD).

Prof.Gabagambi has been involved in a number of government assignments. He was appointed by the President’s office to be member of a group of agricultural expert who prepared the Global 2013 Smart Partnership Dialogue 2013 in Dar es Salaam with a theme “Leveraging Technology for Africa’s Socio Economic Transformation: The Smart Partnership Way”.

Likewise, in 2013, Prof. Gabagambi was appointed by the President’s office to be a member of Agricultural Lab during preparation of the Big Results Now (BRN) programme implemented in Tanzania to accelerate realization of the nation’s aspirations to become a middle income country by 2025.

He has also participated in a countless number of national and international assignments. Some of the assignments include;

  • Assessment of Achievements of the Agricultural Sector Development Program (ASDP) in Tanzania Returns to local infrastructure;
  • Evaluation of DANIDA supported Research in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management 2006- 2011 in Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Vietnam, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda;
  • Mid-Term Review of AGRA Market Access Program in Tanzania, Mozambique, Mali, Ghana, Niger, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Uganda,Rwanda, Malawi, and Zambia;
  • Reviewing Financing Policies and Incentive Structure for Private Sector Investment in Agricultural Sector in Tanzania; Strategic Regional Environmental and Social Assessment of the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SRESA-SAGCOT)
  • Review of Agricultural Marketing Policies Related to Empowerment of Smallholder Farmers to Access Markets for Farm Produce; and Potentials, Opportunities and Challenges of Out-grower Schemes in Enhancing Marketability of Farms Produce in Tanzania.

    His recent publications include:
